I was delighted to win the "Waterland" category in the recent Fenland Photographer of the Year competition.

Vicki & Matt's Wedding at Swynford Hotel, Six Mile Bottom, Newmarket, Suffolk

Vicki & Matt had an emotional day when they saw their wedding photos for the first time during their 'viewing' yesterday. We photographed their wedding on the 8th October 2011 at the beautiful Sywnford Hotel wedding venue, near Newmarket in Suffolk and we had such a great time.

New Dates for "All About Landscapes" Photography Course

Following the popularity of my "All About Landscapes" photography course earlier in the year, I am running it again in October and also in November.

The course is split up into five sessions in total, three classroom theory lessons and two practical lessons and is designed to teach you all about taking landscape photographs. Aimed at both the beginner and the more experienced photographer wishing to improve their landscape photographer skills.

Lisa & Scott's Wedding at St. Andrews Church, Witchford and reception at Needham's Restaurant

We had a great time at Lisa and Scott's wedding on Saturday. They were married at St. Andrews Church, Witchford followed by a reception at Needham's Restaurant.

Lisa and Scott's photographs will be available from the 15th September, after their viewing. I prefer the bride and Groom to see them first!

Tithe Sale - Landscape Photographs

I shall be at the Tithe Sale in St. Andrews Church, Sutton on Saturday (3rd September) morning were I will have a selection of landscape photographs to view and to purchase. Please pop along and have a look and have a chat.

Photography Tips: Think About It!

For those of you who have been on one of my courses or who have heard me speak will know that I don't take loads of photos. My approach is very considered, especially when it comes to landscape photography. I can go out to take some photographs and take a dozen or twenty. Sometimes if the weather and light is not quite right I don't even take any.
This is in direct contrast to a lot of people I talk to who take hundreds, even thousands of photos in the hope that they get 'a good one'. This to me isn't photography, it's just down to luck if they get a good photo or two. My advice would be to think about your photo before you even touch your camera. What do you want it to look like? How are you going to compose it? Is the light correct? etc. Once you have decided what to photograph and how to do, then get your camera out, fine tune the image and then take the photo. You will take far less photos but your photography will improve, and you get load's more satisfaction knowing you have taken some good photos.

How pleased was I when I picked up the August issue of Outdoor Photography, to find Nick Smith's article on a similar subject. Nick puts it slightly differently comparing it to the film days and throwing 50 pence down the drain every time you take a bad photo. But the principle and approach is the same - Think about it - don't guess.

I had a really great time in Ely yesterday with Lisa & Scott for their pre-wedding photo shoot. We had to dodge the showers but that gave us an excuse to go in the pub for a drink!
